My desire to explore subject of warfare and armed conflict through Henry V is personally motivated. Five years ago, a close friend, Captain Richard Holmes, was killed whilst serving with the Paratroopers in Iraq. The period of grief that I experienced, alongside his family and other friends, gives me a specific perspective on the idea of a ‘just war’. My friend Richard loved his job, wanted to be ‘on the ground’ and there was nothing that any of us could have done to stop him serving as a soldier. It was his vocation, and we had to accept, and respect, that.
